Retractable Seats
|
Excuse my ignorance I have not been to the Olympic Stadium due to living miles away from London these days and having young kids but from what I have seen of the new ground on TV it looks ok apart from the fact you are miles from the action. I always thought the idea was that the seats would retract to become nearer the pitch on matchdays and I remember Karen Brady making a big play on this when we were thinking of moving. Does this actually happen? For me its the one big thing that spoils the ground....

The top tier was going to be dismantled after the Olympics. As it was a 'temporary' structure; is it possible to raise it up, and then raise the lower tier, moving it back to athletic mode. Then more seats could be put in front, increasing the capacity beyond 80k!!.

They can't sink the pitch due to the water table

People just don't know how lucky they are with that retractable seating area. Even the Boro fans have sussed the benefits..........

Swiss they can sink the pitch but the soil is toxic so hey would have to 'scrub' it. The nuclear waste is under the BM stand.

It's not too hard to put safe standing anywhere. It's just all the bollocks you need to get around (starting with the grief jockeys).

I saw it fine? Maybe i right by the exit or something. Shouldn't be too hard to sort out and put safe standing there.
I'd stand there.

Yep, thems is the gaps.
Still can't watch the game from there. You could watch half of it where there's the gap between the stands in the corners, but they've put barriers up there now.

Also, how comes you're not allowed to stand at football matches but behind the goals there's area where people are standing at watching the game?
Why not put safe standing there?

*puts hand up*
if I'm honest, I actually think it would have been better if they'd left the ends in athletics mode rather than what they've done. It's absolutely two bob and embarrassingly shit.

Yeah, I'm sure they could do a lot of things to the current football mode and increase the capacity.
Hopefully one day someone invests and does it up because there's potential to make it a wrap around, fill those upper tiers where the screens are, and bring the stands closer to the pitch

Would probably make our capacity close to 90k if they done that.
It won't be changing anytime soon. You can count on that.
